Intervention of Text, 2020
print, acrylic, silkscreen, watercolor, pencil on canvas
Does a text exist to explain an artwork or does an artwork exist for a text?
Questions about what is important in a gallery are asked. This work started from a doubt if a text can function like an image or, in the other way, if an image can stand alone without a text. In order to text this, the text interferes in the role of an image.
A caption (often including an artist’s name, the title, year, and technique) next to an artwork in a gallery is actually a written version of the canvas which contains the artist’s unique creation. At first glance the work seems like a caption enlarged. It is an experiment testing whether a text can substitute for an image, and furthermore for the actual artwork.
